Hello, my close friend is going through a difficult time medically. They have chronic illnesses that would have progressed differently had they been diagnosed and treated earlier, but they weren't because the doctors ignored symptoms and told them it was in their head for many years. The struggles from these untreated illnesses made it hard to pursue educational opportunities and profoundly impacted their life. It can be hard to reconcile the what-ifs of our own choices, having to contend with choices that were essentially made for us is especially painful. They're quite understandably struggling with wondering how different their life could have been if they'd received proper medical care. There's grief, regret, loss, and anger.
I'm wondering if there are books, fiction or memoir rather than self-help, that explore these experiences and the road to acceptance or peace. It doesn't need to have a pretty, perfect happy ending, in fact I think that would not be appreciated. And it doesn't need to be specifically about health issues, while I'd love ALL suggestions, approaching the topic from another type of experience might be easier.
Lastly, I'm aware that not everyone would appreciate a book in this situation, but I'm confident that it would be helpful for this person.

Two non-fiction books by the same author: *The Farm On The River Of Emeralds,* and its sequel and finale, *The Saddest Pleasure,* by Moritz Thomsen*.* A stunning tale of struggle, perseverance, valor, redemption, love and finding peace.
