As the title suggests I’m looking for books that are related to or inspired by or feature the commedia dell'arte roles/characters. Chances if you took drama in school you probably encountered Pulcinella and Arlecchino, those characters. I’ve had absolutely zero luck finding anything that sort of meets this niche, so while I’m specifically looking for fantasy novels I’m really open to anything provided it’s fiction. Even if the vibes are just similar (the masks/costumes, carnival season in Italy, 16th to 18th century theatre, etc).

If you’ve been lucky enough to come across something that even remotely feels like it fits in with this I’d love to read it (even if you hated it and thought it was the worst book ever). Thanks so much!

    1. The Harlequin, by Laurell K. Hamilton, might fit your needs — it’s not a great book, but it has a definite Commedia dell’Arte plot line. It’s one of the later Anita Blake — Vampire Hunter! series, and if I ran across it again I wouldn’t hesitate to pick it up and give it another try.

If you get interested in Hamilton (or Blake) the books in that series that I would recommend most highly would be Obsidian Butterfly, and Narcissus in Chains. They’re a little earlier than Harlequin, they work as standalone novels, but you might want to start with the first few novels in the series too, just to get a feel for it.
