Have you ever lost a book you borrowed from the library? I can’t find mine at all and I’ve searched every corner of my room even places I’d never normally put a book. I’m starting to worry because I don’t know if I should tell the library now or keep looking. Has anyone else dealt with this before and how did you handle it? I feel really bad about it and next time I’ll definitely be much more careful because I truly didn’t mean to be careless. I’m honestly sorry for my mistake and just want to fix things the right way. I’m hoping it turns up somewhere unexpected but right now I’m out of ideas. I guess this is a good reminder to keep better track of my things. If anyone has advice or a similar experience, I’d really appreciate hearing it.
Books are physical things they can’t just disappear without a trace. 😭😭

Behind the headboard.
If you really can’t find it, tell the library and they’ll charge you the replacement fee.
This happens often enough that they have a system in place for it.
Have you brought it outside your house? Ex. at work or at a friend’s house?
Do you live with anyone? Maybe someone borrowed it without asking?
If you still have time before giving it back, just keep looking.
Just be honest with the library staff. We value our patrons who are forthcoming about these sorts of things.
Run…hide ..change your name, leave the country, learn a different language, go off grid…. And maybe….just maybe they won’t find you.
A book I borrowed went missing and I was just unable to find it anywhere.
In the end I told the library and they checked the price of the book online. Once they had a price, I had to pay them the value of the book, luckily with no additional charges.
Stop looking. It’ll turn up when you least expect it.
They send the library cop Lt Joe Bookman after you.
goddamnit, donut. i’m waiting on book 7 because of you!
It all depends on the library. I’ve worked at 3 different ones. First, let them know it is missing. Usually, you are given an extended time to find it. It can be renewed until it turns up. If it isn’t found, you are charged the price of the book, or you can purchase a copy & replace it.
Yes, it happened to me, It was a book I borrowed for my son when he was a child. I searched every corner of my home, and then at last I re-bought a new copy as luckily it was a book still sold in bookshops. I went to the library, confessed my fault and gave them the new book.. Actually they were very happy and told me many people don’t bother to do that.
Anyway, I found the lost book several years later, when we moved to a different home and I discovered the book had slipped behind a large piece of furniture…
