I’m looking for a graphic novel, or even a book with some pictures in it, that is just slightly scary/thrilling? He really loves the diary of a wimpy kid books, dog man, and his mum has read him the Harry Potter books, which he really enjoyed, although she skipped over some of the scarier parts. He is an excellent reader, and I would just love to buy him something really cool for Christmas! Any suggestions?

    1. Bone by Jeff Smith is my immediate thought. Not too sure what else would be out there that’s age appropriate but DC and Marvel both have series geared younger and when looking for graphic novels Scholastic also has specific lines for that age.

    2. Dragon Age (video game) has a series of graphic novels and there’s one really thick one that’s the first five all in one. It’s maybe a tad challenging on the reading side but not too intense as far as scariness. It’s just dudes fighting with swords n all that.

Bog Myrtle and The Wolf Suit by Sid Sharp

The Queen in the Cave and The Witch in the Tower by Julia Sarda

Redwall series (first book has a graphic novel version)

Watership down (also has a graphic novel version)

    5. Mighty Jack is a new take on Jack and the beanstalk, there’s 3 books. And then there’s a spinoff Zita the Spacegirl. These are great.

I can’t remember how scary it is, so you might want to do your own research, but I’m pretty sure it’s just silly-scary: Bunnicula by Deborah and James Howe. There’s the classic chapter book version and a newer graphic novel version.

    7. my weird kid loved the “how they croaked” and “how they choked” books by georgia bragg about the interesting deaths of historical figures. and they had some very cool illustrations.

he also loved the “notebook of doom” series by troy cummings. very light-hearted spooky school mysteries.
