The Killer of the Flower Moon was excellent. About the oil-rich Osage tribe in Oklahoma circa the 1920’s. The FBI investigates members of the tribe being murdered.
Marching Powder is a memoir of a British guy locked up in a Bolivian prison where the inmates literally run the place. Absolutely wild, chaotic, funny, sad story.

Bright Young Women is an excellent book. If you can handle extremely disturbing details, Out of the Woods,by Gregg Olsen is a true account of a child who outsmarted and survived a serial killer.

Say Nothing by Patrick Radden Keefe (who also wrote Empire of Pain, which is really good) is one of my favorite books, period.
I also like the Mindhunter book by John Douglas. It takes you inside the mind of serial killers. The Mindhunter series on Netflix is also surprisingly good, and I’m mad they cancelled it.

Cold a Long Time. A young Canadian man who once played hockey in the NHL goes missing in Austria where he relocated for work. He had such a promising future and was so beloved by his family. His mother went on a search for him and the truth. If it were a novel it would seem over the top unbelievable what’s finally revealed.
Any Ann Rule book, they’re all so well done but I have those I just liked best such as Small Sacrifices. It’s so tragic but the book is very well written and researched. There was later a tv movie based on the book and interviews online of the author and subject.
Each of those writers showed particular empathy for the victims and their loved ones.
