Do you accept what the writer/screenwriters said about the future the story or characters after the finale as canon?

Do you accept what the writers/screenwriters said about the future of the story or characters after the finale as canon? Or has the "death of the writer" begun for you after the finale? I guess I don't accept it as canon.(books or movie,series about.)
