hi everyone! i read the stranger times back in september and absolutely loved it. if any of you listen to fiction podcasts, it reminded me so much of both the magnus archives and wooden overcoats; sort of spooky but still hilarious. i loved the humor and all the characters. ive been trying to find similar books but i havent really found any that fit the bill. if anyones read anything like it, please let me know! thank you in advance 🙂

I loved The Stranger Times! I haven’t read the other books in the series, yet, but are you aware there are other books in a series?
Without the supernatural element, Thursday Murder Club is funny mystery.
With the supernatural/fantasy element, a couple of T. Kingfisher books might interest you: A Wizard’s Guide to Defensive Baking and Minor Mage. Leaning more into fantasy genre than The Stranger Times.
Also, Gil’s All Fright Diner by A. Lee Martinez. More silly funny, but with adult language and sex references.
For a “regular person thrown into weirdness” kinda thing, Chasing the Moon by A. Lee Martinez is a personal favorite. Strange and fun characters with found family vibes.
A bit less humor (though still some), with British investigative suspense: Rivers of London series by Ben Aaronovich is great.
Humorous supernatural suspense but with some gore (not horror but descriptions of gory stuff): Someone to Build a Nest in by John Wiswell. Lesbian romance. I’m a straight guy who doesn’t read horror and this is a fantastic book.
