This year was absolutely terrible, I feel like I neeed to complete my reading goal by the end of this year. I need to read 7 more books. I’ve been in a slump since June so suggest me books that are shorter and will get me out of a slump. Also just started watching only murders in the building and I am loving it, so any recs of books with a similar vibe, mystery/crime + comedy?

    1. Have you read In the Woods by Tana French?

Or Foster by Claire Keegan? Not a mystery but about 90 pages. I loved the spare writing.

    2. For comedy/mystery, One for the Money by Janet Evanovich

For regular comedy, Right Ho, Jeeves by P. G. Wodehouse

    3. Imaginary-Tourist855 on

The Dublin Trilogy by Caimh Mcdonnell. It’s not actually a trilogy but that makes it even better. It’s got some amazing humour in it. I laugh so hard at them.

The Cat Who … series by Lillian Jackson Braun consists of shorter-length mysteries.

Not a mystery, but the best novella I read this year was Two Old Women by Velma Wallis. Two elderly women get abandoned by their tribe in winter and thrive anyways.

Sipsworth by Simon Van Booy is also short and rewarding. Grieving older woman befriends a pet mouse and has to start interacting with people outside her comfort zone.

    5. ConstipatedCrocodile on

“Crypt of the Moon Spider” and the sequel “Cathedral of the Drowned” by Nathan Ballingrud.

Disclaimer; it is a trilogy and Cathedral came out earlier this month so as far as I know Book three release date/name is TBA.

But they’re short, mysterious, spooky, SciFi, wtf-y.
