lonely adventure

I’m looking for a book with a lonely, wandering kind of adventure with a small cast, maybe a an mc with a pet-like companion. I loved All the Pretty Horses for the journey and the nature descriptions, and I just finished A Game of Thrones so I need a break from huge character lists. I’m probably going to read Lonesome Dove soon, but I’d love fantasy or sci-fi recs with a similar feel, especially anything with the kind of lonely badass + dog companion vibe from riddick.
