Posting for my friend since she doesn't have reddit.
So I've recently picked up We Hunt The Flame and The Geographer's Map To Romance, both slowburn adventure stories, which is my preferred genre. I'm over halfway through We Hunt The Flame and I've been struggling to really feel any of the storybeats, not because the writing is bad but I genuinely haven't been able to find a long-term piece of media that makes me "feel" anything in a long time, and I'm worried The Geographer's Map, while having a more interesting dynamic might not get through to me either. It really sucks because I really want to get back into reading again. So I want recommendations for a book/book series that'll break through that barrier, something so packed with emotion and tension it has me turning page after page without thinking and holding my breath like the story is an ocean and I've been submerged into it headfirst. Again, adventure romance is my most preferred with fantasy being a huge bonus, with fantasy and modern (romance) being a very close second and third. Something with a good found family/friendship would also work. I'm open to sci-fi as well and have been meaning to read a sci-fi book for some time now so that would be fun. Absolutely no horror though. If you feel there's anything not under the romance section that might apply please recommend that as well, Alex Rider, despite being am action-focused story had a huge grip on me. Please leave your recommendations!!
