My Song of Ice and Fire theory. Short version.

I don’t have a plot theory, but rather a theory on the actual reason George hadn’t finished it yet, and honestly probably never will.

I think that what we got in the HBO series as an ending, is actually the ending he planned all along.

He took note that the whole ”wow guys! It was democracy all along! Everything’s fixed now” idea would have maybe worked well in the 70s, but now it’s super cringe and no brainer messaging with an underwhelming aftertaste.

My theory is that, because of this realization, he’s been reworking the ending to be less…… [insert bad word that implies poor quality and out of touch white boomer thinking here] and it’s not going so well.

He likely given up several time and scrapped countless new endings.

I’m personally in the camp that, there simply too much earning potential in this series for it to just dwindle out.
Publishers will never announce a cancellation considering the aunt of money they could get if it were finished.

I foresee another author being brought on eventually, not Brandon Sanderson like everyone seems to want, which to me, is incredibly unwise… that’s not a knock on Sanderson, he’s just not the guy for this.

If anyone were to take it all on and really finish A Song of Ice and Fire, it would for sure have to be an author like Bernard Cornwell, Guy Gavriel Kay, or R. Scott Bakker, Tad Williams, maybe even Ken Follett, someone with a serious background in history and anthropology even.

I personally think Kate Elliot would be a good choice.

Just because Brandwich Sandwich finished Wheel of Time (incredibly well from what I hear) doesn’t mean he would be a good pick to finish Song of Ice and Fire guys…
