My niece sent me this list as her favorite books. What book or book series could you recommend that you think she’d like? My taste was a bit different when I was 16, I’m not too familiar with fantasy books.
- A good girls guide to murder trilogy
- The cruel prince
- The maze runner
- Hunger Games
- Twilight
- Five survive
A friend of mine says they loved Percy Jackson at this age. What do you guys think about that one? That might be for a younger audience though.
Maybe Throne of Glass…?
Thank you💕

Percy Jackson series. Decent YA with a good amount of Greek mythos to pique some interest.
Bloody Jack! Badass pirate fiction 🙂
the Six of Crows duology, and the Shadow and Bone trilogy. the Raven Cycle series too, maybe.
when i was that age, i’d have preferred picking my own books tbh. but maybe that’s because i was angsty asf. it’s good that you both have a relationship where she trusts you with what she likes, haha
All good suggestions.
Note sure where you get your books but check with a librarian or kids bookstores staff too.
The Golden Compass! I don’t know of a book series with a better protagonist who is also a young woman.
I feel like the Mistborn series would fit the bill. LotR if she has not read it yet.
The Winternight Trilogy is my recommendation to look up. 🙂
Maybe lightkark by Alex aster and powerless by Lauren roberts
Also divergent
Tamora Pierce’s “Song of the Lioness” series is quintessential teen girl fantasy reading, highly recommend it.
The wheel of time ❤️
Some Ursula K LeGuin would fit right in. Also Station Eleven, The Last Dragonslayer by Jasper Fforde, and the Children of Blood and Bone (series) by Tomi Adeyemi
Skyward series by Brandon Sanderson
Leigh Bardugo, her shadow and bone series or six of crows
If she likes ya murder mysteries (judging by good girls guide to murder) One of Us is Lying is great.
Trudi Canavan’s Black Magician Trilogy, I loved it when I was 16, and still read it occasionally here in my 30’s
The authors I would suggest, based on her current reading tastes, are Marissa Meyer, Leigh Bardugo, Kristen Cashore, Libba Bray and Cassandra Clare. All of these are contemporaries of some of the work listed here, and they all have love stories that teen girls eat up without verging into adult content.
Uglies by Scott Westfield
Dark fusion series by Neal shusterman
Series of unfortunate events And all the wrong questions by Lemony Snicket
