I recently discovered the Sidewise Award for Alternate History and looked up the winners, and way too many are about "What if the Nazis won" or center on US history.

Any recommendations that are different? Ideally about modernish times, not medieval or similar.

I liked the Lady Astronaut series.

    Time travel is fine, too.

I am almost done with The Book of Guilt by Catherine Chidgey, and it is exactly what you are looking for. Takes a few pages to get going, but once it does it is an incredible and horrifying novel.

    2. Ian McEwan – Machines Like Me. What would technology be like if Alan Turing had lived a long full life?

    3. If you’re okay with Fantasy alt history, I enjoyed the Temeraire series by Naimi Novik which answers the age old question: “What if there were Dragons in the Napoleonic Wars?”
