Two books I've read recently were The Twisted Ones and A House With Good Bones both by T Kingfisher. These were different from what I'd normally read but I quite liked these books and I'm looking for something similar.
I liked that they were super easy to read – I'm under a lot of stress right now so I just don't have space left in my brain to read anything too complex and these books were a super easy read. I liked that the main character was in her 30s in both these books. I'm 27 and I really don't enjoy reading books with teenagers as the main character anymore. I liked that these books both had a bit of spookiness but weren't scary. I thought they were light, simple and entertaining enough and that's really what I'm looking for right now, but because of how different this is from what I'd normally read I'm struggling to find similar things. I looked into some books from this author but as far as I can tell most of her stuff is fantasy which I'm not a huge fan of. I also really do not want to read anything that has a lot of sex or romance. I really just want a simple, light, somewhat spooky read with a main character who is around my age and nothing too sexual and no super intense themes like SA or anything like that.
