Hey, fellow bookworms. I’m kind of going through a tough time right now and need a book to suck me in. I usually read thrillers when I need an escape but I’m looking for something a little different (but also open to thrillers).
I kind of want a novel that has many layers to it, potentially multigenerational or multiple perspectives, and will just draw me into its world. Big fan of a bit of drama but not saccharine or cliche. My favorite genres are memoirs, historical fiction, and thrillers.
Some of my favorite books are Homegoing, Greenwood, Educated, The Glass Castle, A Thousand Splendid Suns, God of the Woods, and 11/22/63. I’m open to biographies and memoirs.
Thank you!

Have you read “the Librarian of burned books” yet? I think it will check off many boxes! 3 main characters with intertwining stories over 60 years or so covering the rise of the third Reich and after. Personally, I couldn’t handle the intertwined storyline and read them out of order by main character but by the end I was absolutely in love with the tale.

Commonwealth by Ann Patchett (layered, multigenerational family saga but not saccharine)
The Sound of Gravel by Ruth Wariner (memoir with themes similar to Educated but I actually liked this one better)
Perhaps a weird suggestion, but I enjoyed it. Act of Oblivion by Robert Harris. A story, deeply based in history, of the pursuit (by royalists) of the individuals responsible for the execution of King Charles. It includes an excellent history lesson on the religious and political dynamics of 1650 to 1690 England and the American colonies. Delivered from the perspectives of the major participants.
