I found Jeff Vandermeer’s Southern Reach tetralogy to be quite frightening. Annihilation, Authority, Acceptance, Absolution. Biological/Psychological Sci-fi/Horror ~ heavy with character experience of what they witness and feel during story events. Few books have given me such a visceral reaction.
