Looking for examples of long Fiction Books containing multiple adventures with the same characters.

I saw a chunky book once. It was discribed as being a complete saga, I always found the idea interesting. I'm not looking for that particular book, just suggestions of longer books which encompas the complete saga of a character's life. A one book saga if you like, with no sequels or anything, just one complete story but containing perhaps multiple adventures.
