I’m looking for a book that captures a similar atmosphere to the games Voices of the Void or Firewatch, as well as the movie The Thing. What I need is the isolated setting: a remote station, an abandoned research outpost, a forest watchtower, any place where a lone character or a small team encounters something strange. It could be an investigation, a looming threat, or contact with something unexplainable.
I’d really appreciate recommendations for books where this mix of solitude, tension, and slowly unfolding mystery plays a central role. It doesn’t have to be pure horror, but I’m looking for something atmospheric that leans on the unknown.

Jeff Vandermeer’s Annihilation (1st of a 4 book series but this one checks all the boxes)
You might be interested in Exiles by Mason Coile. A three-person team land on Mars to establish a new colony and things start to go sideways pretty quick. It’s got horror, grief, androids, isolation, sci-fi, and more!
