I don’t understand why Lenora made the real Virginia pretend to be her? Or why Lenora pretended to be Mrs Baker? What was the point of that?
I also don’t understand why Virginia and Patrick/Ricky decided to stay in the house when it fell off the cliff? Guilt? They clearly weren’t feeling guilty in all the time leading up to that moment?
What was the point in making Jessie her granddaughter?
I also thought it was really dumb that Virginia went along with pretending to be Lenora and pretended to be paralyzed for so long. She could had left when the real Lenora went to Europe?
I was enjoying this book until the end. I found the ending to be confusing and dumb.

Okay, off topic question, I am yet to read this book and have been putting off because I don’t know why. Should I read it? Is it good?
Do yourself a favor and read **Little Eve by Catriona Ward** next. These books came out around the same time, so I read them within a few months of each other. Ward will scratch that gothic itch far better than Sager.
Sagar is all about audacious twists trying to keep the reader guessing. Some land, others don’t. Some make sense, others come out of nowhere and provide 0 value (e.g. the dad in this book).
All of his books are best approached as popcorn books written by someone trying to convince you that they are smarter than you.
