I’m looking to read some good old fashioned slasher books. Specifically something reminiscent of the classic and maybe a little campy films from the 70s to early 2000s. Bonus points if, even more specifically, it has similar vibes to things like Texas Chainsaw Massacre, House of Wax, House of 1000 Corpses and Wrong Turn (think like… southern, rural horror, small/abandoned towns, creepy redneck hillbillies, maybe even a murder family. You get the idea.) Though that’s not completely necessary! Just a plus.

I’ve already read I Was a Teenage Slasher by Stephen Graham Jones and loved it. I’d say this is a good example of the type of book I’m looking for.

(Side note— I’m not interested in reading anything overly gross/disturbing, so please do not recommend any extreme horror or splatterpunk type books. I ain’t reading that. I want something fun, not upsetting. 🙏)

You’re on the right track with Stephen Graham Jones – his “My Heart is a Chainsaw” is very much a slasher, and matches your rural horror and small town requirements.
