I’m thinking of The Road by Cormac McCarthy. That is, a sober, direct language that—perhaps because of its simplicity—feels poetic and profound. The novel is also told in short paragraphs, which makes it a fast read. Short chapters work as well.
The story is also, in a way, minimalist and focused on ordinary characters.
I’m looking for something with these characteristics. Bukowski is another example that comes to mind.
I hope my request is clear.
Please also mention the authors of the novels and, if possible, include a brief synopsis.
Looking forward to reading your suggestions!
