I work with high school students who are struggling academically. As part of having a set of activities for them to do if they have finished their school work, I'd like to have a couple short collections. Ideally, these would be very short, so that they'd have a decent chance of finishing a story in one period.
I should also note that it's a Catholic all boys school.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Paul Jennings is an Australian author who wrote a lot of weird short stories for kids – they were always very popular with boys when I was a kid in NZ (I’d say the target age is about 12-14?). Depending on how strictly Catholic the school is they may not be fully appropriate though – they’re not, like, occult but they do have some themes that the school might not approve of, you can read some blurbs [here](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unreal_(short_story_collection)) and decide.
Athletic Shorts by Chris Crutcher is vvv good. It’s been a while so I’d look it over again bc of the Catholic school bit, but his stories are very impactful and very good
