For those who don't know, apparently, the book is much crazier than the movie and the musical. So I got curious and I decided to read not even the full book, but just a few snippets, only to be told that I shouldn't be reading it because it's demonic and poisons the soul with evil spirits…

I am a religious person myself, but c'mon now, the Devil is not coming after me because I'm reading a book with flying monkeys. And yeah, they are witches, but not in that "type" of way???

Like these people really suck the joy out of everything. This resulted in me having to explain the plots of all the books I've read and can remember. Now I'm required to tell what a book is about before I borrow it from the library.

Literally never sharing my love for literature ever again.

What “people” are you talking about here? What do you mean “I’m required to tell”?

Also the book obviously isn’t “demonic” but imo it’s also just not that good.

    2. My grandmother would’ve been appalled at talking animals.

Though I don’t know where she stood on the Judy Garland *Wizard of Oz* with a man in a lion suit. I couldn’t take much of her outrage seriously.

I kicked religion out of my life and I’m excited to hear the book is wilder than the movie. Thanks for the rec!

    4. I’ve read the book. Whomever told you that must’ve done a WHOLE BUNCH of drugs cuz there’s nothing demonic about it

    5. It seems to me that Wicked is one of several attempts to feature villains as OK people, even causing people to sympathize with them.

    6. Back when I was in high school, I learned to hide the books I checked out from the library from my parents. They chilled out some once they became empty nesters, but I still don’t feel comfortable sharing many of my interests with them because of their intolerance for any fictional depiction of the supernatural.
