Definitely in the thousands. Beyond that I have no idea.
You should definitely check these out:
*Jurassic park* by Michael Crichton
*Children of time* by Adrian Tchaikovsky
About 3000 estimated.Â
I liked to read when I was a kid but not a lot, i think between 7 and 15 i read around 150 books.
Between 15 and 34 I think I read 5 books
And after 34 (last 18 months) i read around 50 books.
The thing is: you should read to enjoy it and not just to get a big number of books you read.
I stopped reading after 15 because i couldn’t find any enjoyment in it anymore, i found it again after 34. But the number…. Is just a number, it doesn’t matter.
I think my sister (she is 32) have read more than 2000 books and I don’t give a single dog shit about that. So no, nobody will be impressed with your numbers 😉
I read a lot when I was younger. And definitely didn’t keep track. But from the beginning of 2023 when I got back into read about 245
1. All seven books of Harry Potter+~~Cursed Child~~
I don’t recall cursed child, I performed obliviate charm on myself to forget that!
I only keep track per year, but I’m at 64 books for the year
I’m 46 and have been reading for 40+ years so I have no idea. If I was to exclude children’s books and start counting from about age 12 when I moved to adult literature I’d estimate it at somewhere between around 1000.
Goodreads count is 1710. I stated using it in 2015. I’ve been a reader since I was 3-4 years old (~1995) so definitely many more than I’ve tracked.
About 300. I am in my 50s. I read tons as a young kid, didn’t really read anything through my teenage years unless it was required for school and even then I did a lot of skimming and Cliff’s notes.
In my adulthood I have tried to always have a book on the go but with work, kids, home, energy levels I have a goal of a book a month. There were some years when my kids were young where I only read one or two books.
Anyway, when I started using Goodreads I made an attempt to catalogue every adult book I could remember reading. I was a school librarian for about 15 years and read tons of young adult books, either in full or part. Too many to remember so I didn’t count those. My “read” books is sitting at 301 – I’m sure I’ve forgotten a couple, and I’m finishing one up this weekend that will bring it to 302.
Anyways, keep at it! If you are enjoying reading and finding new books, it’s not about the quantity!
I couldn’t even guess, I get through at least one a week.
So I’ve been an avid reader since middle school, but I didn’t really start tracking books read until college. I tried to go back and add a handful of the ones I’d read as a kid into my tracking app, but I’m sure I’ve missed a bunch. According to my Storygraph app I’ve read 1366.
I started using Storygraph in 2022, but had paper tracking info back to 2014 that I tried to input. Past that is all guessing from my memory, so there are definitely books I read prior to 2014 that I’ve completely forgotten about or just never entered into the app.
I have been reading for 45 years. So I’m guessing about 1000 books. Some years I read several books a week and some years were busy with work and kids so a lot less.
I’m 43, and excluding children’s picture books, I’ve probably read close to 10,000 books. In middle and high school, I was reading an average of about 3 or 4 books a week, and I’ve never stopped.
I probably own around 3,000, although I’ve never tried to add them all up. Some are in storage, but my bookcases are all overflowing.
I’ve lost count cuz I’m old, but I’ve read about the same number as you in the specific period since February last year, and you’ve hit a few of my favourites already (hurrah for Stephen, hurrah for Stieg).
About 1 a week for 55 years. But grew up in a small town so reread everything in our library 3 to 10 times lol. And reread favorites throughout the decades. Louis L Amour was one of those favorites especially the Sackett Family books. James Clavell was my first Adult author. I lied James Fenimore Cooper was my first Adult author.
I don’t think I read THAT much, but I am on my 30th book this year 🙂 Granted, a few of them are short ;P
Too many to count or remember. (I’m 38 and have been reading chapter books since I was 7ish)
My Goodreads says 306 over the 28 years of my life, but 242 of those were in the last three years, that’s when the book bug bit me.
I’ve been an avid reader since I learned to read, so I don’t know the exact number, but from the books I remember reading, it’s around 115 books. There was about a 3 year after I graduated college where I didn’t read for fun because I was constantly reading for school and my brain couldn’t handle it.
I picked reading back up in 2023 and have read about 50 books in that time. Next year I’m going to try and read 52 books (or one book a week), so we’ll see if I can do it. Though I feel that would be my threshold in terms of quantity. I feel if I tried to read more than that, then I wouldn’t actually retain information. Lots of people do read hundreds of books a year, and have no issue retaining details, though so don’t let me stop you!
Happy reading!!
I read 185 books last year, according to my reading log. Some were obviously longer than others. (From 80 to 900 pages).
I’m 59 and have been reading a lot lately, as an antidote to deep depression, but even at 50 books a year, that’s maybe 3000 books, not including academic reading for degree essays etc.
