For Christmas this year, we’re each including a “something to read” in our gifts to each other. My husband isn’t much of a reader, but when he does it’s always non-fiction, sort of self help types of books; things he’s read over the last 7 years – atomic habits, 12 rules for life, meditations by Marcus Aurelius. I’d like to find him 2 books; one non-fiction, sort of “right up his alley” and a fiction book. I’m not really sure where to start.
He’s really into football (US), and gaming. 34, father of a 3yo boy and another boy on the way. Any suggestions would be awesome!

For the non-fiction one, maybe sapiens?
Blind Man’s Bluff (the submarine book) was a really cool read and might get him into history books.
Tough – Greg Everett for non fiction
The Daily Stoic
For non-fiction maybe Constructive Living by David Reynolds.
For fiction, if he likes sci-fi you can go with Hitchhiker’s guide to the galaxy or Dark Matter.
Shadow Divers is so very good. I love it. I recommend it all the time. Every person who has taken the recommendation has loved it as well. It’s non-fiction.
Cant go wrong with Jurassic park.
Has he read any Mary Roach books? She’s such a good nonfiction writer and can make any topic fascinating.
A Payroll to Meet by David Whitford was one of my favorite college football books. It’s about the SMU player pay scandal that led to the program getting the death penalty. The ESPN 30 for 30 was also excellent.
Friday Night Lights is a classic.
Obviously, The Blind Side is a great one (without the fictionizing of the movie).
I’ve heard Newton’s Football is good but I haven’t read it.
Four Thousand Weeks for nonfiction
