If you’re open to psychological tension and character-driven stuff, I read something recently that surprised me — Gaslit Figures by E.J. Carter. It’s not flashy or twist-for-the-sake-of-twists, but the way the relationship slowly turns corrosive honestly stuck with me. Very grounded, very cinematic, and the Chicago vibe adds this heaviness to everything.

The pacing is kind of interesting too: fast to read but slow enough that every small shift between the characters actually lands. And the last few turns in the story made me stop for a second like, “wait… what just happened?”

Might fit if you’re into messy dynamics and psychological unraveling rather than big action-y thrillers.
