I’ve been struggling with not being in a mood to read, books I tried reading just don’t work for me. I thought that maybe I just don’t like reading as much as I did before but then I started connecting the dots and realised that what makes a book good for me is when it takes me through the emotions. All the books recently that I couldn’t finish felt quite boring for me. Also I really love fantasy war type books where there’s a lot of battle strategy involved.

My favourite book of all time is She Who Became the Sun by Shelley Parker Chan. It is a part of a duology and I loved both parts but I reread the first book a million times before the second came out so it just has a special place in my heart. I read the first Poppy War book but the pacing felt a bit off for me, I’m not sure if that’s just me but to me it felt a bit rushed but these would be my general examples of what I like, although it doesn’t necessarily have to be fantasy or war related but on that sort of emotional wave if that makes sense.

Just to give a different example, I also really love Last Night At the Telegraph Club. It’s also one of my favourites and it’s quite different to the books I mentioned above but I would also say it’s quite emotional.

Also I prefer diverse author recs. Thank you in advance 🙂

I loved From the Drop of Heaven by Juliette Godot. I held back tears in a couple places. This book is about real people and what really happened to them during the Renaissance. (You might be able to figure it out). It is not gory and is not explicitly sexual. It is in essence, a love story with a tragic yet bittersweet ending.

    2. Look into M.L Wang if you have time. I remember getting very emotional when reading The Sword of Kaigen.
