After spending many years NOT reading, I've recently gotten very into audiobooks (I had a baby and listen while my hands are tied up). Ideally I want to make up for my years of missing popular, award-winning "important" books by prioritizing those, but I've found that many of them are too bleak for me at this point in my life (blame the baby hormones). For example, I recently listened to Demon Copperhead and while it was beautiful, I almost gave up on it because parts made me so so sad. I'd love to know your favorite fiction books that don't go too dark. Ones I've enjoyed that have fit the bill include Margo's Got Money Troubles, Tom Lake, Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow, Funny Story, and A Visit from the Goon Squad. Thank you!

    1. I read a lot of horror and weird lit, but sometimes I need a palate cleanser and I loved Tom Lake! Here are some recommendations from that part of my list:

The Night Circus (no real plot, all vibes, but very fun world)

      Winter Solstice by Rosamunde Pilcher

      The Wedding People

      Remarkably Bright Creatures
