I mean monster hunter books where the humans are literally just that,humans, in hunter the reckoning and vigil you play as a mere human, unless you have a lot of skill points in things like brawl,the millisecond a vampire or any monster gets close is game over,you aren't blessed or have plot armor,you are an accountant that saw something you shouldn't and now fight monsters that can kill you in an instant
The ttrpg and series also make an emphasis on careful planning and strategies on how to fight a monster and the fight scenes are brutal,scary and fast, making it clear that it is horrifying having to fight monsters
Plus points if its urban fantasy but its ok if its fantasy or any other genres
