I’m looking for something kind of niche here but I’m hopeful there are some good options floating out there.
I had a conversation with a family member about how we both have been having a hard time reading lately. Between life changes, the state of the world, and general business – it can be hard to turn your brain “off” to read. This can especially be true, in my experience, with novels when life requires you to put down a book for long stretches. The thought dawned on me that a short story collection would be the perfect thing for this season of life.
I would love to find one that we could buddy read together. While I love a good lit fic – which is what I would consider most short story collections – she tends to gravitate more towards contemporary fiction. I’d love to find something in the middle. Easy to digest, heartfelt, but nothing too heavy.
I recognize this might be a little too specific so, in lieu of a collection, I would absolutely accept suggestions of short books (150 pages or less).

Probably not what you want, but every story by Faulkner or Hemingway will tear you a new asshole.
Probably not helpful but the only ones I know are chicken soup collections.
Good luck!
