I love reading but I really struggle with finishing books quite often, even if I'm enjoying them. This is because I get over-excited thinking about all the books I haven't read + get in the mood to read other books before I've even finished the SEVERAL I'm always in the middle of.
I've gotten better – I used to have the added difficulty of seeing reading as Productive + therefore trying to read as many as I could to reach my yearly book quota. This sapped the enjoyment out a bit, as I was constantly checking the pages I had left + seeing it as a chore. I'm much better at enjoying the time I have with a book now and this has really opened me up to much longer books than I was able to read before.
But I still struggle with overcoming the Urge to start another book, especially when I see one I own mentioned/praised online. Wondering if anyone has been able to overcome this or if its just an irritating part of my ADHD

I struggle with this hard! I always have about 4 books i bounce between for this reason but it takes me ages to finish anything
This used to happen to me more… for non-fiction books, I started doing active reading with Readwise Reader, making highlights and annotations… which sync with my Obsidian notes. I have a specific purpose for reading each book, so if I want to get what I came for I need to finish the book.
For fiction, I only books I’m really enjoying and therefore really want to find out what happens. Can’t do that if I don’t finish.
I had the same issue. You are not alone. I started taking notes of the sections I have highlighted. I use notion for notes (earlier it was evernote)
So now I know that in order for my notes to be completed, I got to read till the end.
And I make it a point that I don’t start a new book until the previous one is over.
