I am currently putting together my reading list for 2026 and was hoping someone could recommend a Robin Hood book that isn’t for children, something YA or adult-leaning.
I’ve always loved the idea of reading a Robin Hood retelling. I grew up watching the Disney animated version, and I adored the cast of characters: the sweet romance between Robin and Marian, the friendship within the Merry Men, and the fun mix of adventure, loyalty, and humor. I’d love to find a book that captures that same spirit but is written for an older audience.
The problem is that choosing a Robin Hood book feels surprisingly overwhelming. There are so many versions, tones, and retellings that I’m not sure where to begin. I also remember hearing about a retelling where Lady Marian dresses as Robin Hood at some point, but I haven’t been able to track down which one that is, so if anyone knows, please let me know!
Things I like:
- Friends to lovers
- Found Family
- Good balancing of angst and fluff/humor
- Romance is welcome, but doesn’t need to be the only focus (I'd rather it be a subplot for this instance)
Things I dislike:
- Grimdark and all-time depression
- Smut (I avoid it as much as I can)
