Hi everyone. I’m looking for book recommendations. These are the authors and books I'm thinking about for some reason:

    • Ottessa Moshfegh (love her writing style)
    • The Clown by Heinrich Böll
    • Michel Houellebecq
    • Woman Destroyed by Simone de Beauvoir
    • Conversations with Friends (the only Sally Rooney book I genuinely liked)
    • Bunny by Mona Awad

I love sharp, honest, unfiltered prose. I’m drawn to books that explore flawed humans, privilege, loneliness, the messiness of being alive, and yes, romantic love but not in a cheesy or sentimental way.

For context, here are some books I didn’t enjoy even though they were recommended to me:

    • Cleopatra and Frankenstein ( super shallow characters)
    • The Idiot (I liked the writing, but the story felt painfully boring)
    • Exciting Times ( nothing about the main character felt truly well depicted)
    • The Wedding People (predictable, bland dialogue)

Sterile characters or cultivated edginess really turn me off. I’d love to hear your recommendations.
