Hild by Nicola Griffiths. Historical fiction about St Hild of Whitby and her precarious upbringing as a child of royalty in shifting times.
The Steerswoman by Rosemary Kirstein. One of the best female friendships in fiction.
My Real Children by Jo Walton. Patricia makes a choice and the rest of the book is alternating chapters on what happens as a result of each choice.
