Recommend a book that makes me forget that Babel by RF Kuang is a thing that exists and that I unfortunately spent braincells on

I hated this book. A 1980s televangelist is less preachy than RF Kuang. Why does this book exist?????

Colonialism is bad. Get it? It's BAD! White people are bad. Not-white-people are heroes. Or, at least, flawed-but-redeemable. But white people?? BAAAAAD. They are child abusers and colonizers and betrayers-of-friends.

The problem? It's colonialism. And specifically, colonizers. SO. VERY. BAD. Let RF tell you about how bad it is. For 500 pages. Very literally. They. Are. Bad.

R.F. must stand for Really Fatuous

Y'all, I'm a human who has suffered kind of A LOT by colonization (literally, it's not a contest but colonization has not served me well). But HOLY HELL this book is absolutely insufferable.

First 50 pages I was so hopeful: 1800s, fantasy, plot about meaning and language. It could have been so great! But no. It's atrocious. I'm 30 pages to the end and just hate reading it at this point.

What is the appropriate palate cleanser that can erase this book from my short- (and possibly long-) term memory?

I've done Piranesi and The City and The City this year, and liked them both for the world building.
