Hi! My mom and I were talking about starting a book club amongst the women in our family (the age gap is 21 – 70) as a way for us to get back into reading and open the floor for conversations about everything under the sun/keep in touch. Open to any and all suggestions for great books to read! I was thinking the pace would be 1 book per quarter.

For comedy/mystery, One for the Money by Janet Evanovich
Rebecca – Daphne du Maurier – a much loved classic!
I just finished The White Octopus Hotel and I’ve been recommending it to everyone I can. It was so beautiful.
Lisa See’s books might be a nice fit, depending on your family dynamics. Her historical fiction focuses on complex relationships between female characters: sisters, friends, mother-daughter, etc.
They also tend to have suggested book club questions in the bonus sections at the back. My favorites are *Lady Tan’s Circle of Women* and *Shanghai Girls.*
If you want to include books that are also related to topics like womanhood, I recommend the following:
– “The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo” by Taylor Jenkins Reid. I think this one is especially great for the age range
– “Breasts and Eggs” by Mieko Kawakami. It’s originally in Japanese, but the English translation reads beautifully imo
– “Lolly Willowes” by Sylvia Townsend Warner, which is a lot older, being from the early 20th century. In the US it is in the public domain and thus easily available
I’m Glad My Mom Died
