While I was in school I was awestruck by the movie Prometheus where the group tried to connect to gods but were slaughtered as the difference between them is so vast. Recently I saw a episode of Star Trek Strange New World and it brought me back to that memory. While thinking of books I just can think of Terror. Basically what I'm asking is unleashing something or finding something and the difference between them must be humongous. The protagonist may or may not survive the encounter but we must feel the humongous difference. I know these phrases may have different meaning but I just wanna convey my feel.

So these probably aren’t what you’re looking for, but these short stories all made me feel a certain terror:
The Jaunt by Stephen King
A Short Stay in Hell by Steven L Peck
I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream by Harlan Ellison
I Who Have Never Known Men by Jacqueline Harpman
*The expanse* series by James Corey
Not exactly the same kind of plot but related:
*The final architecture* trilogy by Adrian Tchaikovsky
The *Revelation space* series by Alastair Reynolds
