Allow me to give some examples of what I mean.

For fiction I would mention Dracula and Frankenstein. Both are a collection of journal entries and letters written by the characters and feels like the reader has encountered a first hand account of some pretty unbelievable events that no one else has knowledge of.

For non-fiction Rise and Fall of the Third Reich fits the definition. The book cites plenty of documents that were once classified and sheds light on the minds and personal lives of many obscure figures in history. While reading it I felt like I had stumbled upon classified material that nobody had read before.

I’m sure there are even better examples but those are the ones I could think of that I have read.

      The Portrait of Dorian Grey

      Lolita

Both psychologically dark stories narrated by people who have done terrible things; things that people don’t normally speak about.
