Hi there,
Looking for recommendations for a not too heavy/long mystery book to discuss on vacation.
For that reason it would be good if there were various twists and turns.
We both don't get the chance to read often, so are looking for something enjoyable for both of us to get through in about a week or so of travel during our downtime.
Thanks very much!

Anything Agatha Christie! My husband and I listened to the audiobook of *Death In The Clouds* on a drive to camp in a national forest, and we spent our nights in the tent discussing the mystery and waiting to find out the answers on the drive home. It’s one of my fondest memories.
Sounds like a helluva vacation.
I haven’t finished this book but you could look at the book Zero Stars, Do Not Recommend. It’s about a couple on vacation on a remote island when the sun explodes, leaving everyone stranded. Might be a fun (???) one to discuss with your girlfriend!
*__The Housemaid__* by Freida McFadden
If you are dog people, try the Chet & Bernie series. Chet is the narrator, and he’s a dog that failed police K9 school. Bernie is his human PI partner. Amazingly fun reads.

The Maltese Falcon!
jo callaghan – kat & lock
an imaginative police procedural series that includes sci-fi elements like a strangely attractive holographic AIDE (artificially intelligent detective entity) that can gather and analyze an infinite amount of data but lacks human empathy and imagination (and a sense of smell).
investigations are conducted by disparate characters: recently widowed, minority, non cis, single and pregnant that have each found their special niche in the team. the 1st book is in the blink of an eye
rubbernecker by belinda bauer has a very unique protagonist. patrick fort has been obsessed with death ever since his daddy was killed in a hit and run accident when he was a child, so he becomes an anatomy student when he grows up…
this book is alternately creepy, scary, melancholy, darkly humorous, affecting, and elegantly written. reading it is like.. the satisfaction of completing a complicated jigsaw puzzle without having the picture on the box top for reference…
the shut eye by belinda bauer – warning: don’t start this book when you have another project or deadline.
be sure to have a tall glass of water beside you, still or sparkling, tepid or filled to the brim with crushed ice and maybe a slice of cucumber or a sprig of mint. you will be desparately parched.
while justice sleeps by stacey abrams (yes, that stacey abrams) – –
a law clerk is thrust into the spotlight and possible danger when it is revealed she is appointed legal guardian to a US supreme court justice who has slipped into a coma.
trying to keep up with this convoluted plot with elements of chess, bioengineering, legalese, and a corrupt president trying to stack the supreme court was a challenging but exciting read.
