To make a very long story short, my mom died a month ago and I can’t shake the guilt that I did not do my best to save her.
I’m looking for a book with a similar premise. Something where the protagonist is grappling with the death of a loved one and either succeeds or fails to find a way to cope with it. It can have an ultimately positive message, or it can just get downright sadder and sadder till the end. It doesn’t matter.
I watched Manchester by the Sea recently and I think it helped me. So something along those lines would be great. Any genre and style works as long as it deals with these themes, thanks.

I’m so sorry for your loss. The only novel I can think of is Signal Fires by Dani Shapiro, and I hope it helps. Take care.
I’m so sorry for your loss. The first book that came to mind was A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness. It deals with grief from the perspective of a child and includes low fantasy elements. I can only recommend this book!
I don’t want to give any spoilers but this is a theme of *Theft of Fire* by Devon Eriksen, but I don’t think scifi is what you’re going for. But… mistakes were made, it haunts him, and eventually he’s placed in a situation where things get worse before they get better.
