I just got broken up with after almost three years together living together for a year. It is my first ever breakup. I feel so lost and need something hopeful.
I always recommend Pema Chodron’s When Things Fall Apart for life moments like this. It was actually introduced to me as “the breakup book”.

hi! i just got broken up with 3 weeks ago as well, nearly three years— as well. the first week i was inconsolable. let yourself feel these emotions without guilt and just sit with them. don’t try to understand them or fix them, just let them be— be sad! you’re allowed to be.
however, in a week or so, pick up “Let Them” by Mel Robbins. i picked it up too early in the breakup and didn’t feel the full effects until later. but it is a life book, not a fiction or anything. i think it changed my perspective on the breakup profoundly and really, highly recommend reading it when you feel ready. it teaches you the power of the theory of “let them”, and how to not let others control you, your reactions, and your feelings. it taught me how to take control of my life and that only i can control my emotions and reactions, and that i cannot control of people as they will do what they want to. it helped ease a lot of anxieties after the breakup
