I just finished The Mirror Visitor series and while it is a bit childish and grotesque sometimes I loved how the plot twists and worldbuilding weren't just excuses for romance. The full of flaws and not so powerful characters were like a breath of fresh air.
With winter approaching, I'm dying to immerse myself in a multi-volume fantasy novel that takes me on a long quest, but when I took a look at the fantasy section of the local bookstore it was just a deluge of YA novels, with the same recurring pattern… I don’t want to read dark academia, or forced mariage stories with Mary Sue FL, or anything of that sort. I’m too old for it (and have read too much of that as a teen..).
I want a bit of romance, but I also like good worldbuilding and relatable characters.
If any of you think of a series that would match this please share your recommendations !!
The only criterion that is really important to me is a female main character, and preferably a female author… sadly, most advertised book with a female lead fall into this cliché category.
Feel free to drop any of your favourites non-fantasy recommendations too !
