Hello! I am needing to pick a book for my AP Literature class, my professor is allowing us to choose any book as long as it can be considered a young adult level or above and be fictional. I have never really been too interested in reading (mostly because whenever I have done it, I was told what to read and given a deadline) though I love to write and hear stories from other sources. I was hoping that if I could find a book that I would really love would be the perfect way for me to find a love for reading which is why I am coming here! I find myself listening to a lot of real life mysteries and made up horror stories, but nothing very basic like “spooky haunted house” or just ghost stories in general. I like weird mythological creatures that are very creative and actually sound or look scary. I was wanting to know if anyone knew of a book that would leave an impact on me, while also including some type of mythological creature. I would also like to note that I strongly dislike stories like “The Ring” that feels like this creature is being set up, I like when it comes as a surprise and feels like it could happen to anyone. I would also prefer something that is more modern in writing, my brain is very bad at following something that is written with older century English. With that being said, some stories that I do love if anyone is interested when it comes to helping me recommend books would be: Dytlov Pass Incident, Devil’s Footprints, Wendigo, Hachishakushama, Indian Lake Project, but those are just naming a few, I have heard about a large variety of cults, true crime, “internet mysteries”, and just disturbing stories in general. Does anyone have any book recommendations!?
