Basically looking for books with misanthropic self-destructive protagonists who are probably dealing with pain and depression, are brutally honest and witty and have a twisted/skewed view of the world and people. Characters who feel harsh on the surface but reveal their inner workings through how they observe and act with people.
Not entirely same but I absolutely loved Olive Kitteridge so something in that vein could also count.
