We lost our Dad a few weeks ago now to cancer. She took care of him 24/7 for his last month on hospice at her home. She is 28. It was tough on her. She likes quirky stuff. Ideally I’d like it to touch on a somewhat father/daughter story but she could use some smiles so nothing dark. I’m just getting into books myself so I don’t have much knowledge to the range of what’s out there. Thanks in advance to anyone who can suggest something.

    1. A Tale for the Time Being by Ruth Ozeki reached me after my sibling died a few years ago. It helped me turn the page.

    2. first of all, so sorry for your loss. losing a loved one is difficult at the best of times but especially so around the holidays.

      here are some suggestions:

the unsinkable greta james by jennifer e smith – kind of a crap title for a story that is hard to describe without spoilers.  an indie musician who had a flame out onstage might find redemption in an unlikely place, while on a cruise with her estranged father

bellweather rhapsody by kate racculia is like a wes anderson movie: innocent, ethereal, technicolor, tinged with melancholy but funny and mysterious. hard to describe but it’s delightful

the guncle by stephen rowley – a delightful mix of sentimental moments, deep thoughts, acerbic wit, and some swears.

nothing to see here by kevin wilson – so intentionally weird and quirky, yet oddly endearing.
