I am 24F and made my debut back into YA after long break of me thinking I am above YA (literally bc my age) and that I should be reading “higher caliber” books like All Quiet on the Western Front, Little Women, etc (not bad reads at all but a little less fun admittedly)

I am reading The Ballard of Songbirds and Snakes and it ignited just this passion I had for YA books as a teenager ( I still consider myself a teenager sadly after denying it so long). I absolutely love the Hunger Games series and it feels so real and raw and just easy to digest.

I especially have a particular obsession with power hungry, morally gray villains. Coryo is unhinged yes but the way Collin writes him is so intriguing and fun to read. He’s the closest to the character I’ve been wanting to write/read about for so long. Anakin was really the grandfather of all of this but I’m not a huge Sci-fi fan so I never got into reading any material. But I’m open to it so long as the world is not super complex. Plus imma so for real I want to fangirl over non existent men.

So what I ask of the book community is (please be kind) a recommendation where:
-there are power hungry characters that are morally complex, not just due to narcissistic behavior or being born psychotic
-the world building is tight and efficient meaning that it’s not so dense and ornate like LOTR or GOT but simpler and easier to digest like hunger games
-and of course a dash of romance

If I saw this post I would recommend myself something like Six of Crows (I love the freak out of Kaz) in case that helps you help me 😉

    Thank you in advance!

I’m a lot older than you and I still like some YA books. If the story and writing are good, don’t worry about the YA label.
