Looking for a couple ideas of books for my partners dad to read.
Hes not a big reader, his kids and wife are avid readers ironically and the house is full of books.
The last book he read was Tom Brady’s biography.
Hes a typical guy, likes sports, outdoor stuff, etc.
Partner suggested something that focuses on different stories in the book, my first thought was World War Z?

Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer
Animal Farm by George Orwell, its short and classic
Maybe the Jack Reacher novels? My dad and brother love them. They’re kind of typical guy books.
Hatchet , Garey Paulson. Don’t tell him it’s a YA novel . He will love it. Never Cry Wolf , Farley Mowat. He may have already seen the movie though it was popular.
Don’t do WWZ. Good book, but suspending disbelief is a learned skill, better suited to someone who already loves sci-fi or a persistent reader.
You want something accessible that confirms his identity and his thoughts or treads down paths he knows, while training him how to be a reader.
* Bill Bryson, *A Walk In the Woods*
* Richard Russo, *Empire Falls*
* David Benioff, *City of Thieves*
* Michael Shaara, *The Killer Angels*
* John Krakauer, *Into Thin Air*
* Ben McIntyre, *Operation Mincemeat*
* Erik Larson, *The Splendid and the Vile*
These are all at the intersection of “good books” “accessible writing style” and “realistic content.” None of them is outrageously long. They all are prolific enough authors or themes to keep going if one “hits.”
