I am doing The Storygraph Reads Around the World challenge for 2025 and need help with the prompt for Belgium. The goal is to read one book set in Belgium, ideally by a Belgian author. I was going to read Georges Simeneon's The Flemish House (part of the Inspector Maigret series). The detective usually works in France but in this book, he works a case in his hometown (based on the book description). I can't find a copy of the book anywhere but the audiobook is set to be released on December 9th. I was going to sign up for a librofm subscription to get the book but it looks like it's close to $17, which feels like a lot to pay for one 3.5 hour book.

I have also looked for options in my local library. Our system can usually connect to other public and academic libraries in the state but that connection has been down for the past few months so I'm really limited to what is in my local system. We don't have The Lion of Flanders (it's also 600 pages so not doable for me in a month), none of the Tintin series, and the Amelie Nothomb books we have are not set in Belgium.

Any suggestions for other books that might work?
