Books for each age 3 to 18. What would a gentle, imaginative boy read as he grows?

For the coming year I gave myself a 16 book challenge in honor of my son who suddenly died at three years old. I want to share these books with his little sisters as they grow. Obviously I have no idea what he would have liked as he grew, but I would love suggestions of what books others might suggest a boy might like at the ages of 3 all the way to 18. He was very gentle and loved to go through his board books independently, especially little blue truck. He was sensitive in the sense thay he would cry if something scary happens to a character in a story or movie. Thank you in advance.
