I leave for a Costa Rica trip in 9 days and am really pumped to be hiking in the rainforest and be immersed in that culture. For the plane and the trip I’m looking for a book that has a historical fiction element set in the tropics, preferably a sort of treasure or fantasy or mystery element about the native people. I don’t want to read about white washed characters and want a sort of authentic story. Even though my trip is in South America, Pacific Islander/Polynesian would be extremely welcome. I’m really just in the mood for a sort of Aztec(ky) tropical story with stakes.

I’m from Costa Rica, I think 100 years of solitude or the house of spirits will do
